Madden Curse Alive and Well Favre Traded to Jets

If you have been following the soap opera that has become Brett Favre then you already know that he has been traded. Favre, who retired this offseason, was chosen by EA to be the cover athlete for Madden 09. There were some questions on why they chose a retired player to be on the cover and it was understood that because of the 20th anniversary of Madden that Favre would fit into the theme of the release.

Those that follow football new that there would be speculation that Favre may want to return to the NFL before the 2008 season started. Well that is what happened, but it went way wrong. The Packers really didn't want him back and that is where the soap opera began. The tug-o-war between Favre and the team escalated to the point to where the team had to do something and finally has traded him.

If you hate Favre and would like to add some style to your Madden cover check out some custom covers here. I know I will be changing mine. I can't have the soap opera known as Favre ruining any more of my football this year.

It looks like EA will be updating the rosters on day one of the season to reflect the change. Wow EA releasing a roster update when people want them, brilliant.

Thanks to cyclone2426 over at the Operation Sports forums for the covers.

Madden Patch Details

Thanks to Pastapadre.com for the Madden news. It looks like we are starting to get details on what will be in Madden Patches. Here are some of the biggies:

Patch #1 (currently with MS/Sony for certification)
1. Changed default quarter length of online leagues to 5 minutes.
2. Solved a very rare stability issue that occured when using a couple of playbooks.
3. Eliminated a button mashing glitch during high latency online games.
4. Eliminated a stability issue that sometimes occured while viewing the player HUB in online leagues.
5. Fixed a tricky disc eject glitch that occured at specific points of online games.
6. Kick Return Tuning - made improvements to help reduce frequent long kick returns.
7. Safety Tuning - eliminated issue where safeties in deep zone coverage would sometimes not react to a run to their side.
8. The game skill slider for interceptions was tuned to amplify it’s affect.

Patch #2 Possibilities
1. Ghost Juking OOB fix - aka CPU players running out of bounds
2. CPU Accuracy tuning
3. Amplify the field degredation effect (the system is currently working but is hidden by some of our late added post effects)
4. Other post-release community feedback

DLC Possibilities
1. Accelerated Clock
2. CPU Sliders (you would have the all new human sliders as well as a brand new screen of CPU sliders)
3. Legacy Gen Controller Config
4. Madden Community Gamerpics

The PlayStation Show Podcast Episode 10

The return of JasonB to the podcast leaves us with a full crew to talk about all the PSN goodness in the latest installment of the XMedia Minute. We talk about PixelJunk Eden, Lego Indiana Jones, Facebreaker and Madden 2008. We give our impressions on what we loved or hated the newest demos that were released. The release of the Beijing 2008 trailers piss us off. Also The Last Guy video was released and we have made a special level with our website here. Try out the demo!

After the break we talk about some PlayStation news and get in a good debate on whether lead development on the PS3 will create better games on the PS3. We also take a look into Q1 numbers for Sony and how they may be finally making money in their games division. Also we talk attach rates for PSP games and why some of us love the PSP or hate it.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue is getting an update and will be allowing you to purchase and download HD video. Find out if we like the idea or hate it. We then talk a little about some of the customizations that are being done in Soul Calibur IV and if playing as Kratos or Snake is cool.

Also we talk about the announcement of a Final Fantasy XIII demo in the Blu-Ray Edition of Advent Children and the new PSP Final Fantasy XIII Agito game.

We finish up with a new game called Buy, Rent or Sell and we give our impressions on what you should do with the new Greatest Hits games for the PS3. And then we give a moment of silence to the PSP camera. This looks like it may not be coming to America and we say our peace to the fallen peripheral.

Madden Demo Videos

This is looking more and more for the newbs that have never played Madden or don't know much about football. As I see the first video it looks very similar to the training that was in all the other Madden games on the PS2, but with all the style the casual gamers will at least take notice this time around. They must have missed it in the last gen because in my opinion this has already been done, but you had to be pretty hardcore to use it.
